HOW THE BOSTON GLOBE PURGED JEFF JACOBY Jeff Jacoby talks about how he was recently suspended by The Boston Globe, and invited to resign, for "serious journalistic misconduct". It was alleged that his article on the fate which befell the signers of The Declaration of Independence did not attribute its sources and amounted to plagiarism. Wrong. He used information and some expressions which were in the public domain - the story was a well known historical retelling. A closer examination, to me, suggests that, as the Globe's only NON left columnists, he has been singled out for special treatment HERE IS THE BOSTON GLOBE'S 'EVIDENCE' Harvey: "They had learned that liberty is so much more important than security that they pledged their lives ... their fortunes ... and their sacred honor." Jacoby: "They were men of means and social standing, but for the sake of liberty, they pledged it all -- their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor."
Harvey: "His fields and gristmill were laid waste."
Harvey: "Fifty-six men knew -- when they signed -- that they were risking everything."
Harvey: "And Thomas Nelson Jr., of Virginia, raised two million dollars on his own signature to provision our allies."
Harvey: "He died bankrupt and was buried in an unmarked grave."
Harvey: "For more than a year, he lived in forests and caves and returned home after the war to find his wife dead, his children gone, his property gone." We also discuss: The Elian Gonzalez issue, the anti-Americanism of many Americans, the extent of the outrcy against Jacoby's suspension, American politics, what makes Americans a great people, and much more.
