How did you find out about this survey?
And any comments you'd like to make:

Feel free to IGNORE any of the questions below or to add any comments or asides of your own.

Just write "pass" or NA (no answer/not applicable) or whatever, if you are skipping a question.

In fact you can ignore ALL the questions and just say what you want about how you discovered Ayn Rand.

Anecdotes and stories are especially welcome. Feel free to be as brief or as detailed as you like. It's not an essay. A 'conversational' tone is best.

Furthermore, you can answer just SOME of the questions now (and send them through to me) and some at a LATER point i.e. just come back to this page and send some more notes.

If you want to change any of your answers later that's no problem either. Based on what you write I will very likely have some more questions for you.

These questions are simply a starting point.

I would value ANY observations, opinions, views or stories you would like to share that relate to this research.

I will eventually want to include at least parts of your comments on the forthcoming DISCOVERING AYN RAND page of AynRandWorldwide.ORG. But this will only be done with your express approval.

TEN INITIAL QUESTIONS

1. When did you FIRST find out or hear about AR? When did you first read AR's work? Who introduced you to AR? What were your early impressions of her or her ideas? Were AR's ideas similar or different to what you already believed?

2. What did you read first? And then? etc. Have you read: We The Living? Anthem? The Fountainhead? Atlas Shrugged? Capitalism - The Unknown Ideal? Romantic Manifesto? Introduction To Objectivist Epistemology? The Virtue Of Selfishness? For The New Intellectual? The Anti-Industrial Revolution? Leonard Peikoff's Objectivism: The Philosophy of Ayn Rand? Have you seen the documentary Ayn Rand: A Sense of Life? What else?

3. Many, many people encounter AR's ideas and writings but few maintain their dedication. Do you consider yourself an Objectivist? Do you have a view about why so many 'drop out' or fail to embrace her ideas or why many misunderstand the ideas?

4. What does AR mean for you? What do you PERSONALLY get out of AR's ideas? What difference do they make or have they made in your life? Have they influenced your career choices? Your relationships? Your view of yourself?

5. Have you ever met Ayn Rand? Leonard Peikoff? Other prominent Objectivists? What were you impressions?

6. What do you like most or enjoy most about Objectivism? What aspect of Objectivism is most compelling for you? Has this changed over the years?

7. Have you ever recommended AR to others? Could you please say something about this. What's the best way to introduce AR to others (is there a 'best' way?)

8. Are you or have you been involved in any regular Objectivist study group? Please tell me a little about this. Are you on the OSG or the HBL? AmericanIdeals? Attended lectures or conferences? Given talks or lectures on Objectivism? Other involvement?

9. Do you have other favourite authors or thinkers you would like to recommend?

10. Is there ANYTHING else at this stage you'd like to say about Objectivism or Ayn Rand? (Anecdotes and stories are very welcome).

Thank you for participating!
